Navratri Day 3, Tritiya - Devi Chandraghanta is worshiped

Devi Chandraghanta

Navratri Day 3 - Tritiya: Devi Chandraghanta

Devi Chandraghanta is worshiped on the third day of Navratri. She rides on a Tiger; there is a bell-shaped crescent on the mother's head which gave her the name Goddess Chandraghanta. She has ten hands, each hand has different weapons. She protects against demonic forces. According to Hindu mythology, Devi Chandraghanta is the Goddess of spirituality and internal strength. Devi Chandraghanta is also known as ChandrakhandaChandika or Rannchandi. This form of Devi Chandraghnata is peaceful and welfare. By her grace, all the sins, distresses, physical sufferings, mental tribulations and ghostly hurdles of the devotees are eradicated.

Chandra means moon. Moon represents the mind.  So Chandraghanta is that which charms the mind, the embodiment of beauty. Anything which is beautiful to you is because of the mother divine's energy. If the energy is not there then nothing is beautiful. However a beautiful body and face some may have, if there is no life then you don't say it beautiful. You don't say this is a beautiful corpse. In the dead body, you don't see beauty in it, because there is no energy. So, it’s energy that brings life to animals and radiates beauty in human beings.
