Navratri Day 6: Maa Katyayani

The Day 6 is dedicated to goddess Katyayani,one of the nine forms of Shakti. She took birth as the daughter of Sage Katyayan as a result of which she is known as Katyayani. According to the scriptures, goddess Parvati took the form of Katyayani to destroy Mahishasura, who was a demon. Katyayani was the most violent form of goddess Parvati. This form of Maa Parvati is also known as a warrior goddess. She is also called Shakti, Durga, Bhadrakali, and Chandika. 
She is portrayed with 4 hands, carrying a sword and the lotus flower in her right hands while keeping her left hands in Abhaya and Varada mudras. She holds shining Chandrahasa (Sword) in Devi’s hand and one hand is depicted as giving the blessing. She rides a magnificent lion.

ॐ देवी कात्यायन्यै नमः॥

ॐ ह्रीम श्री कात्यायनी दुर्गायै नमः |
