During the 9 days of Navratri/ Durga Puja celebrations, Maa Durga is worshipped in her 9 different avatars. Each day is devoted to 1 special Goddess avatar or form and devotees pray to Maa for giving blessings upon them.

With the fourth day begins the worship of Devi Kushmanda. She is worshiped after Shailputri (शैलपुत्री), Brahmacharini (ब्रह्मचारिणी) and Chandraghanta (चंद्रघंटा). She likes Bali (बली) of white pumpkin which is called Kushmanda (कुष्माण्ड) which gave her the name Maa Kushmanda.

She possessed eight arms because of which he is known as Ashtabhuja Devi, holding kamandal, bow-arrow, lotus flower, conch, chakra, mace (गदा), and a rosary (जप माला) which blesses all her devotees with Ashtasidhhis and Navniddies (सिद्धियों). She has nectar urn (अमृत कलश) in her hand. Her vehicle is tiger and people who worship her will be blessed with long life, success, and health.
